The Obama Administration proposes spending $25 billion specifically to ‘provide support for hundreds of thousands of education jobs’ in order to ‘keep teachers in the classroom’.  But, over the past 40 years… student enrollment increased by a modest 7.8 percent, while the number of public-school teachers increased by 60 percent.

“… researchers have found little correlation between spending and educational success.”

In the last decade, education spending has increased by 57 percent, adjusting for inflation. On top of this, the President infused the Department’s budget with nearly $100 billion in 2009 as part of the stimulus act, and just last summer, Democrats in Congress threw them another $10 billion [bone] through the ‘edujobs’ bill.”

The man in charge of the Department of Education’s $4.35 billion Race to the Top grant program for public schools told education officials that states that ‘didn’t get a nickel’ of the grant money did as well, if not better, in terms of education reform as those states that got millions of dollars in funding.

One way to estimate the academic impact of higher public school spending is to see what it has accomplished in the past. That’s the purpose of the accompanying chart, which shows [that] Spending is up by 95 percent in real, inflation-adjusted dollars while SAT scores have fallen by 4 percent.”

America’s school system outcomes are far worse than the public believes or understands.

America must find a way to raise educational achievement in all areas for all students.

We will not achieve steady, broad-based economic growth without a much-improved education system.

America must reduce the dropout rate and reduce the cost of formal schooling.

Funding is not the problem and future changes must be made with the funds available.

According to another popular theory, additional spending on education will yield gains in test scores…  As can be seen from the scattering of states into all parts of Figure 4, the data offer precious little support for the theory.
