Greenhouse-warming theory cannot… Spending trillions of dollars to decrease emissions of greenhouse gases is likely to be a complete waste of money. We can continue to burn fossil fuels without damaging the climate.”
[Like virtually everything else on this page (and many similar pages of ASND, accessible from the Science/Global Warming menu above), the published, peer-reviewed data are readily available for anyone to examine but very few — including most climate scientists — ever bother to actually read them. That last citation mentions the climatic temperature record. It turns out that wherever the temperature vs. CO2 concentration records are compared — including in the recent past — there is no causal connection between increasing atmospheric CO2 and increasing temperature. Most recent heat records for most locations were recorded not in the 21st century after decades of rapidly increasing anthropogenic CO2 but rather decades before the post-industrial increase in anthropogenic CO2 became statistically significant.

Likewise, the recent decade-long pause in global warming (late 1990s – late 2000s) was completely unanticipated by any climate models because they universally assume CO2-induced atmospheric warming — despite it being universally falsified (see the hyperlinked references provided).
So there it is in black (actually blue) and white (and orange): Numerous examples of published, peer-reviewed scientific research revealing that anthropogenic CO2 is NOT — and never has been — the primary cause (i.e. “driver”) of global warming. As the pages cited by the embedded hyperlinks in the previous sentence reveal, climate science is very much like the life sciences (and economics, btw) in that it is highly complex , with a large number of often unmeasured and unmeasurable variables interacting and/or not interacting (depending, again, on a wide range of other variables) to produce what we know as weather and climate. Since there are so many of these sometimes active, sometimes inactive variables involved in every, frequently changing atmospheric condition, our incapacity to fully understand the breadth of weather and climate conditions radically reduces our capacity to accurately describe and predict weather and climate conditions into the future (at least beyond a few hours and/or days). This condition of uncertainty is hardly new to science, especially over the last century as the discovery of quantum mechanics has literally saturated the science of physics with exactly that unalterable reality.
The point here is that scientists on both sides of the CO2-induced AGW debate (ASND reminds readers that “AGW” is the commonly used acronym for “Anthropogenic Global Warming”) often make opposing claims of scientific certainty (or statistical near certainty) regarding what are actually nothing more than unverified pet theories. Dr. Peter Ward — quoted at length above in blue text — makes precisely this error of assumed certainty. After citing numerous verified (i.e. peer-reviewed & published) observations regarding differing volcanic eruption effects on atmospheric chemistry and observed correlations between ozone depletion and atmospheric temperature increases, Dr. Ward claimed — without citing any peer-reviewed evidence — that “Ozone depletion caused by humans and by volcanic eruptions explains most periods of very rapid warming during human history and throughout Earth history in considerable detail.” Dr. Ward is a credentialed scientist who is supposed to understand the most elementary axiom of statistical analysis, that correlations do not always equate with causations. Yet Dr. Ward — exactly like the CO2 alarmists he criticizes — commits the most basic (juvenile, really) error known to science when he states a mere theory as a scientifically verified fact. While Dr. Ward might eventually be proven right (we know , and have known for decades, that the CO2 alarmists are wrong), for him to commit the exact same statistical, scientific, and logical error that he criticizes in others is inexcusable hypocrisy for him. ASND will call out such anti-scientific foolishness whenever it concerns what is reported here.
But the fact that Dr. Ward makes unsubstantiated predictions from substantiated observations does not invalidate the veracities of the peer-reviewed observations he cites. Those observations do challenge CO2-induced AGW alarmism and they join many other challenges and falsifications of that alarmism presented on these pages .]
