Regrettably, Islam cannot be reformed. Keep in mind that Islam claims it is the perfect eternal faith for mankind.  Splits have occurred and will continue to occur in Islam.  Yet, reformation has not happened in nearly 1400 years and is not going to happen. Islam is carved in granite, just the way it is.  No change.  Allah’s book is sealed.

[Excuse me, Mr. Imani (an Iranian former Muslim), but there were many who said the same thing about Christianity in the 14 — and 15th — centuries.  It wasn’t until the 16th century that the Reformation finally came, and with tremendous — and apparently permanent — consequences to boot.  Granted, the Christian Reformation turned back to Scripture for its grounding (which led it away from most of the theological and social abuses perpetuated by Roman Catholicism) and any peaceful “reformation” of Islam will require it to move away from the Qur’-an’s numerous and explicit calls to violent jihad against non-Muslims.  Such a “reformation,” though, might still occur.  We are not prophets so we shouldn’t claim dogmatically that we know the future unequivocally.]

I think we can all agree that in America, no ideology, secular or religious, is beyond questioning.  The day America shies from freedom of speech is the day freedom ends for everyone.  Most people, including myself, don’t want or care to criticize any religion, let alone the religion I was born in, in the sense that it is a personal relationship with God.  But, if religion expands itself to become a one party totalitarian State with an elaborate legal system to control every aspect of the life, and that has a military institution called jihad, which violates other nations, then that religion is no longer a private matter or immune to criticism.  By assuming the role of government, religion has opened itself to criticism.
