For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the [liberals] who do not know God… because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.  For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.  Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to [those who truly believe].”

Honoring marriage means doing what we can to keep the ‘marriage bed undefiled‘ ( Heb. 13:4 ).  The immediate warning about God judging the ‘sexually immoral and adulterous‘ in the same verse helps us understand what defiles the marriage bed…  Premarital sex, homosexuality, incest, bestiality, pedophilia, and pornography are all dishonoring to the Lord and to marriage (see  Lev. 18 ).

Marriage:

God created man male and female in His image, sexual complements who together fulfill the mandate to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth ( Gen 1:28 ).  Any so-called marriage that does not consist of the joining of the two different but complementary sexes is therefore not a valid marriage.

The Bible teaches that sex is to be within the bounds of marriage, as a man and a woman become one flesh ( Eph. 5:31 ).  Paul admonishes us to ‘flee‘ ( 1 Cor. 6:18 ) and ‘avoid‘ ( 1 Thess. 4:3 ) sexual immorality and to control our own bodies in a way that is ‘holy and honorable‘ ( 1 Thess. 4:5 ).  These values [also] apply to such issues as premarital sex, adultery, and homosexuality.

Five basic biblical passages speak to God’s prohibitions on homosexuality:  Leviticus 18:22 20:13 Romans 1:26-27 ;  1 Corinthians 6:9 ; and  1 Timothy 1:10 …  God’s view on homosexuality is closely aligned with His view on marriage.  From the opening chapters of Genesis to the closing pages of Revelation, God supports and celebrates marriage, which is always between a man and a woman.  Jesus [God the Son] clearly endorsed that view in  Matthew 19:3-9 [therefore God] supports only marriage between man and woman.

[I]n these ‘who cares if you’re married?‘ times, isn’t it ironic to consider that a line from one of pop music’s most recent hits is, ‘If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it.‘  That’s because, even apart from Christianity, people innately know that when marriage is done right, everyone wins…  And there’s the crux of the matter.  Marriage invites us to an institution meeting our deepest needs, while requiring of us strength of character we do not always have, thus driving us to the Source of the power we lack.

Homosexual-Affirming Culture Fosters Same-Sex Abuse

——————–

Anyone who rejects the teaching of Paul and the other Apostles on human sexuality is rejecting God Himself.  Thus, one cannot be a Christian and believe the world’s false narratives about human sexuality or embrace a sexual ethic that approves of homosexuality, heterosexual fornication, bestiality, pornography, incest, adultery, pedophilia, premarital cohabitation, polygamy, or anything else forbidden by the Lord in His Word ( Lev. 18 ; 1 Cor. 56:9–11 ; 1 Thess. 4:3–7 ).  This is not to say that it is impossible for Christians to commit sexual sin.  Believers can and do fall into all types of sin, including violations of God’s sexual ethic.  And thanks be to God, there is forgiveness for all types of sin, including sexual transgressions, IF we trust in Christ and RENOUNCE our evil ways ( 1 John 1:8–9 ).  But those who have been converted to Christ do not approve of sexual sin or seek to change the biblical ethic.  They embrace the Bible’s teaching, even while recognizing that they fall short of it.  Anyone who professes Christ and rejects God’s Word on sexual matters does not have the Holy Spirit and thus is not a true believer ( 1 Thess. 4:8 ).  If we want to please God, we must [WANT to] keep His moral law.  And if we do not want to keep His moral law, we do not want to please Him and cannot call ourselves Christians.

Augustine famously said, ‘In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.‘  But while all should be loved, not [all] should be believed…  In fact, Augustine himself ‘was called to write against the many heresies‘…  Sexual behavior was not a ‘non-essential,’ to Augustine [or his predecessors, including Christ & His apostles], but occupied ‘the foreground in the landscape of human morality‘…  [However] there [is] very little distinction between [many professing] ‘Christians’ and the [lost, spiritually dead] world regarding human sexuality anymore…  So whereas theological lines once drew a distinction between the Church and the world, they now draw a distinction between ‘churches’ themselves.  Sound doctrine [to these ‘churches] no longer applies to such ‘non-essentials‘ as biblical inerrancy, the nature of God, or the atonement.

https://stream.org/in-praise-of-schism/

[The author of that essay correctly identifies the error of LGBTQ “affirmation” as heretical but incorrectly refers to heretical, professing “Christian” clubs meeting on Sunday mornings as “churches”.  That usage of the word is simply false.  The English word “church” translates the biblical Greek word “ekklesia“, which  literally means called-out ones“.  The apostles intentionally used that word because it correctly defined those who were called out — by Christ — from the unbelieving, sexually permissive (and therefore immoral, anti-Christ-ian) culture surrounding them.  The point, here, is that those whom Christ trulycalls out” actually believe Him when He tells them that sexual sin is sin.  People who do not believe Christ when He speaks are simply not Christians, which means they are not “called out” by Christ from the sexually immoral culture.  Since they are not called out, their Sunday morning social clubs are are not Christian and therefore they are not churches.]

23 out of the 27 books of the New Testament specifically name and condemn fornication, adultery, prostitution, incest, homosexuality or lust.  The first church discipline on record, in fact, was a response to sexual sin (I Corinthians 5) and Paul forbade the Corinthians to associate with any believer practicing it. (I Corinthians 5:11Clearly, then, we can’t just ‘agree to disagree‘ on homosexuality within the church.  If it constitutes a sexual sin, and if sexual sin is a primary issue, then getting right trumps getting along.  [The apostle] Paul would have had little patience with those who’d argue, ‘But we’ll lose people if we take a stand on this!‘  To him, the purity of the church, not its numbers, took precedence (I Corinthians 5:6-7) and truth overrode popularity. (Galatians 1:10Allowing unaddressed sin for the sake of getting along creates unity with impunity, a tolerance we find sometimes in churches, but never in scripture.

Liberal [or progressive] ‘Christianity’ regards the Bible as a good book but insists it must be reinterpreted to comport with contemporary society…  [Proponents insist Christians must] affirm the new sexuality embodied in the LGBTQ movement or affirm the full authority of Scripture and be anathema in the postmodern culture… [effectively relegating Christians] to the outer margins of society…  [While it is]  tempting  for Christians seek a ‘middle ground’ on such issues, the Bible [i.e. God] provides no such option… [because] issues such as homosexuality cannot be defined on the world’s terms…  There’s no middle ground between affirming and denying the bodily resurrection of Christ.  There’s also no middle ground between defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman and saying it can be something else.

Since the early doctrinal creeds of Christianity omitted any mentions of human sexuality, does Christian orthodoxy require a particular position on human sexuality?
Absolutely.
The absence of an ethical stance in the creedal affirmations of the early church doesn’t mean there is no such thing as moral orthodoxy or an ecumenical ethical consensus.  Take infanticide as an example.  Christians over the centuries have defended the intrinsic worth and dignity of newborn babies, standing apart from ancient society when they refused to abandon their infants to the elements and rescued the abandoned infants of others.  This doctrine of human dignity and the corresponding ethic that prohibited infanticide is a good example of an orthodox ethic that, even though not explicitly spelled out in the creeds, follows as a good and necessary consequence of doctrines about God’s fatherhood, the nature of creation, and the broader theological vision assumed by the creedal tradition.  The same is true of sexuality.  The early Christian witness was both doctrinal and ethical.  Among early Christians, we find a strong emphasis on both beliefs and behaviors.

4) In fact, Jesus says nothing about homosexuality at all.
5) It is unfair to condemn people for a sexual orientation they did not choose and cannot help.

How is Christianity different from other religions when it comes to homosexuality?
As it turns out, it differs quite profoundly from all others, but not in the way the dominant [liberal] cultural voices say it does.
In a naturalistic worldview, people practicing [homosexuality]… are nothing special…  [N]one of [the pantheistic religions, like Hinduism] provide[s] any objective grounding for human value or identity.   Worse for the struggler looking for solid answers [about same-sex attraction and/or homosexuality because those religions] hold that suffering is an illusion, which is flat out insulting to a person in pain [not to mention an abject falsehood]… Islam is openly hostile to homosexuality. In some Islamic countries, homosexual acts are punishable by prison, flogging, and in some cases death…  [But Christians] intuitively know there is something about sex that makes it more than just a physical act… there is something sacredly fragile about sexuality, and sacred things are so special, they are worthy of protection.  God wants to protect the sacredness of sexuality from becoming common, and the boundaries given through the biblical sexual ethic guard the sacred specialness of sexuality…  [According to Christianity,] God created man and woman in the image of God.  [But m]an and woman being created in the image of God is a blasphemous concept to Islam, [it’s] a foreign concept in any pantheism, and [it’s] an absurdity in any naturalistic secularism.  Only the biblical worldview, which holds that all men and all women bear God’s divine image, gives any objective grounding for inherent human dignity and value…  [T]his leads to the reason why human sexuality is worth limiting to male-female marriage: It’s because sex is the way human life comes into the world.  Sex between a man and a woman is the only means by which such a precious being comes into this world…   because a human being is the sacred product of sex, the sexual process by which that person is made is also sacred.  The biblical ethic limits sexual expression to monogamous, male-female marriage because God is protecting something sacred and beautiful.  As we submit ourselves to the creational guideline, we are given the honor of reflecting an aspect of the divine splendor.

The concept of sexual orientation was first used by Freud… [who] was a product of the Romanticism of his day…  It makes sense that Freud would adopt an unstable, narcissistically self-referential lens through which to construct an identity for himself. He was an atheist…  Romanticism claimed that you know truth through the lens of your personal experience [rather than objective evidential analysis], and that no overriding or objective opposition can challenge the primal wisdom of someone’s subjective frame of intelligibility…  Romanticism says that you know the truth about reality through your own personal experience [alone]…  The Romantic period is typified by an uncontested embrace of personal experience, not merely as self-expression or self-representation, but also as epistemology and personal identity (i.e. who I am, ontologically).  So not only is experience the [only] way you know the truth about reality, it is also the [only] way you know the truth about yourself.  Or, to be more specific, it is the [only] way you discover who you are.  Into this self-referential milieu, Freud added sexual desires as an epistemological indicator. This precipitated a seismic shift in the way we think about people and sex.  It redefined men and women from people who are made in God’s image with souls that will last forever to people whose sexual drives and gender identifications define them and liberate them and set them apart…  ‘[S]exual orientation’ is what we call a neologism — a newly made-up [term].  It creates fictional identities that rob people of their true identity and re-maps personhood in a way that God does not…  Scripture gives the Christian clear categories of personhood grounded in the eternal, unchanging Creator…

“[Christians are called to] speakthe truth in love‘ [Eph 4:15].  Yet truth is love [2Th 2:10], [but many professing Christians] simply [do] not want to tell the truth about homosexuality… [First of all,] nobody is really [homosexual].  That is, nobody is fated to live the life of a [homosexual] and engage in that kind of degrading sex for their whole lives…  [Secondly, homosexual] sex combines the banality of masturbation with the danger of promiscuity.  You get all the  shamemisery, alienation, embarrassment, pain, filth,  disease,  and  self-doubt;  but you get no spontaneity.  You can never sire children in the same act that gives the other person pleasure.  And you will never get the wondrous feeling of knowing your body parts can bring your sex partner to a level of ecstasy that one can never achieve alone…  [Thirdly,] God’s perspective [sees] homosexuality [as] a huge deal. Sodom stands out as the great symbol of evil and its downfall went hand in hand with rampant homosexuality.  The first chapter of Paul’s key [doctrinal] epistle to the Romans places homosexuality front and center as it discusses the process by which people deceive themselves and become delivered to a depraved mind.  Homosexual intercourse was forbidden and vilified for thousands of years because it is too vile to be placed on par with normal sex. Homosexuality coincides overwhelmingly with slavery, rape, prostitution, prisons, drunkenness, and pedophilia precisely because gay sex requires at least one party to be damaged and humiliated by sodomy in real time.  Only someone who has been forced, paid, brainwashed, or groomed to accept self-harm as pleasure can make homosexual acts possible…  [Homosexual] men can come out of every closet save one.  They will never admit that what they do for sexual pleasure is half nightmare, half farce.  I got out of the [homosexual] lifestyle because I met a girl, fell in love, and gained the confidence to pursue what I always wanted: a lifelong romantic relationship that involved true sexual fulfillment, intimacy, pleasant companionship, and children.  That’s heterosexuality. Homosexuality provides none of those things…    [Christians] misfire tremendously by avoiding the confrontation with what [homosexual] sex has always been and protecting people from its harms…  No human being, created in the image of God, can be reduced to an identity based on sodomy.  [Homosexual] sex is dirty, dangerous, and bad [i.e. evil].  If our discussion standards stipulate that we cannot speak about dirty, dangerous, or [evil] things, then [Christians] might as well not [even participate in any] discussion [about homosexuality].

“Is the Bible fully authoritative over and sufficient to address human sexuality in a day when sexual perversion is being mainstreamed? [If not,  why  does someone who denies the full authority of the Bible identify as “Christian” ? If so, then why do we tolerate any ambiguity about same-sex attractions being anything other than ‘dishonorable passions‘ that, if acted upon, result in doing that which Scripture calls an  abomination  and ‘contrary to nature‘ ( Rom 1:26Leviticus 18:22 ).  Certainly, these biblical truths — like that of hell — should be taught with reverence, humility, and fear.  But they should be taught without any embarrassment or apology by those who are unashamed of the inerrant, authoritative Word of God.

No.

There are at least four different positions held by professing Christians on same sex attraction (SSA):
1) Some define SSA as sexual desire and therefore always sinful (Denny Burk, Heath Lambert, Owen Strachan [and  Robert Lopez ,, featured prominently in this section of this page]).
2) Others see SSA as a pattern of temptation, which should be resisted (Sam Allberry, Edward Shaw, Rosaria Butterfield, with some nuance).
3) Others define SSA as a condition that can be transformed into something good (Wesley Hill, Nate Collins).
4) Some affirm the goodness of homosexual identity (Matthew Vines).
Each of the first three views affirms that sexual desire (lust) constitutes sin [outside of the context of and/or desire for marriage]… [View 3 alone allows for the] phrase [‘homosexual (or “gay”) Christian’, which] wrongly describes a Christian (i.e., by using the anthropological word ‘gay’ which theologically refers to a pattern of sinful desires).
[Only View 4 is wholly and completely devoid of biblical truth and therefore ontologically  anti-Christian at its core.]

Men and women are not interchangeable.  The man and the woman — in marriage especially, but in the rest of life as well — complement each other, meaning they are supposed to function according to a divine fitted-ness.  This is in keeping with the ordering of the entire cosmos…  Sexual difference is the way of God’s wisdom and grace. It was there in the garden, there in the life of ancient Israel, there in the Gospels, there in the early church, will be there at the wedding supper of the Lamb, and was there in the mind of God before any of this began.  To be sure, manhood and womanhood is not the message of the gospel.  But it is never far from the storyline of redemptive history.  The givenness of being male or female is also a gift — a gift to embrace, a natural order of fittedness and function that embodies the way the world is supposed to work and the way we ought to follow Christ in the world.

How did we get to a place where… the genital mutilation that allows a biological man to masquerade as a woman cause celebration and affirmation… [and people ] reject [biological] truth not because it’s false but because it ‘hurts‘?…  The answer is  intersectionality , an analytical tool introduced in humanities and social science departments in U.S. universities in the 1990s (…I had been a university professor living in serially monogamous lesbian relationships during the 1990s).  Intersectionality creates a metanarrative (grand story) out of oppression.  It maintains that the world is made up of power struggles, and that white male heterosexual patriarchy must be destroyed in order to liberate those who are oppressed by it… [Intersectionality begins as a] set of ever-expanding personal qualities that constitute identity and personhood: age, race, class, sex, sexuality, gender identity, weight, attractiveness, feelings, phobias — [but] the list [never ends]…  Indeed, intersectionality maintains that who you truly are is measured by how many victim statuses you can claim — with your human dignity only accruing through intolerance of all forms of disagreement about your perceptions of self and world…  Intersectionality confuses justice, a command of God to defend the poor and the needy (Mic. 6:8), with a conception of justice not defined by Scripture…  [I]ntersectionality [therefore] works at cross-purposes with the gospel: first, by fostering an unbiblical view of human identity, and second, by producing social fragmentation [because it] fails to distinguish between morally neutral descriptions of people’s lived experience (ethnicity and class) with morally charged descriptions (sexual orientation and gender identity).  Because intersectionality does not have a biblical category of sin, it does not have a biblical category of repentance, redemption, or grace.  [Intersectionality] understands the biblical complementarity of husbands and wives as perverted and ‘weaponized‘…  Suffering in this worldview includes both material and perceived suffering: the ‘dignitary harm‘ clause of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, the 2015 Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage in all fifty states, expanded the concept of harm to include harm to one’s dignity and identity.  Thus, any perceived rejection of personal identity based in LGBTQ+ affirmation constitutes harm.  Harm, then, [has been judicially — rather than medically — redefined to be] both material and psychological, both real and perceived…  Intersectionality produces never-ending social division and fragmentation…  For example, intersectionality demands that youhonor someone’s pronouns‘ even while knowing that those pronouns [are self-evidently and scientifically false and that they] can change tomorrow.  We are told [by liberals] that good neighbors lie to each other like this, pretending that women can be men and men can be women.  We are told [by liberals] that a homosexual orientation is indelible and permanent, but biological sexual difference is [merely] a matter of personal opinion…  These contradictions to [both scientific reality and] the creation ordinance violate both love of neighbor and common sense.  Intersectionality claims to create community, but the community it creates is fractured, victim-minded, angry, and inconsolable.  This is the exact opposite of the community created by the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; Gal. 5:22–23).  When intersectionality joins efforts with the gospel, it leaves us with an immature faith, a false hope, and a deceptive vocabulary…  The church’s embrace of intersectionality as an analytical tool was intended to give voice to the voiceless.  But the [endless list of] victimized identities that emerge from intersectionality are perpetually immature and in constant need of therapy and affirmation…  Gone are the days of empowerment; intersectionality requires [constant] life support [for its proponents]…  Churches and parachurch organizations should be aware: intersectionality will not serve the gospel. It will not help you become kinder, more aware of the world around you, or better able to deal with diversity.  Rather, [intersectionality] will introduce a new set of false virtues and false vices into your ministry.

It is no secret that [liberal] American politics ha[ve] been overtaken by identity politics — one of the popular layers in the social justice agenda…  Through [liberal] intersectionality‘, the more victim groups a person identifies with — the more power they can obtain… [and] intersectionality is now being used to leverage a social justice movement within evangelicalism…  [The new] grievance industry is a very lucrative industry and it has now entered evangelical circles… [One example:] A large number of Southern Baptist pastors would not embrace Beth Moore’s theology, but due to identity politics and the perceived need to empower women within evangelical denominations — she receives a pass on her  deficient theological positions … [Another example: B]oth the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) have been marked by the  Revoice  Conference controversy of 2018 that has promoted many troubling ideas and positions regarding same-sex attraction and LGBTQA+ Christianity…  Now, another ministry has arisen within evangelical circles with a similar purpose under the name, ‘Living Out’… [Another example:] Many black Christians are instructing white Christians to be quiet and listen on matters of social justice…  In some cases, [church elders] are being encouraged to choose lesser qualified black leaders over more qualified white leaders in order to reach the goal of diversity among church leadership… [S]ola Scriptura been [been] replaced by sola identitatem…  [I]dentity politics [has] hindered our ability to exercise good biblical discernment…  Pragmatism is the historic thorn in the church’s side.  The wave of the pragmatic movements such as the church growth movement have left the evangelical church weak and superficial in many ways.  When churches, seminaries, and denominations make decisions based upon the desired benefit rather than the truth of God’s Word — it weakens the church.  The desire to be culturally relevant has caused many churches and denominations to crumble…  While many conservative evangelicals embrace the sovereignty of God and the sufficiency of Scripture — they give greater priority to pragmatism in how they make decisions…  The church in America today is being driven off course by identity politics.  The identity of the church today is being attached to the color of skin and the priority of gender empowerment rather than Jesus Christ…  If the church continues to feed the monster of identity politics — it will eventually bite the arm that feeds it.  Consider the direct connection between identity politics and the freedom of speech restrictions and hate crime legislation that are quickly approaching the church in our day.  These items are not isolated nor are they disconnected from the overarching social justice agenda.  Today the church is becoming increasingly  woke , but in reality it needs to be awakened to the truth of the gospel alone…  When Paul wrote to the church in Galatia —he pointed to the union that [all true Christians have] in Christ.  The bond is Jesus [alone] and the church’s identity cannot be focused on ethnicity or gender. Paul wrote, ‘For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Gal. 3:27-29).  Paul said almost the same thing in Colossians 3:11.  We don’t find our identity as the ‘woke church’ or the ‘black church’ or the ‘white church’ or the ‘hipster church’ [or the ‘gay church’].  Instead, we find our identity in Jesus [ALONE].  We are CHRISTians… [and as Christians w]e must boldly stand in opposition to the intersectionality politics in light of the fact that we have a sufficient Word that is capable of guiding us along the broken roads of our culture (Ps. 119:11).  For me and countless thousands of Christians across America — the Word of God is enough.

[For the record, the PCA is far from the only ostensibly evangelical denomination in the U.S. to align itself — formally or informally — with  Revoice  .  The  SBC , for example, has done likewise.]

[M]y article, ‘There Is No Peace‘… highlights the problem created by having a Southern Baptist faculty member who has endorsed Revoice .”
