Minimum wage laws force employers to pay certain employees more than the market rate for their services.

For decades, [Democrats] have alleged that newer minimum wage studies typically find no negative impacts on employment. This claim was debunked by a 2007  paper  in the journal Foundations and Trends in Microeconomics.  Per the paper, which was written by Ph.D. labor economists David Neumark and William Wascher:

The ‘oft-stated assertion that the new minimum wage research fails to support the conclusion that the minimum wage reduces the employment of low-skilled workers is clearly incorrect.
Nearly two thirds of 102 studies examined in the paper ‘give a relatively consistent (although by no means always statistically significant) indication of negative employment effects of minimum wages.
When ‘researchers focus on the least-skilled groups most likely to be adversely affected by minimum wages,’ the negative effect on employment ‘seems especially strong.

A 2015  paper  by the same scholars and Ph.D. labor economist Ian Salas goes into great detail about the flaws of studies that conclude the minimum wage does not destroy jobs.

The evidence indicates that workers initially earning near the minimum wage are adversely affected by minimum wage increases, while, not surprisingly, higher-wage workers are little affected.  Although wages of low-wage workers increase , their hours and employment decline, and the combined effect of these changes is a decline in earned income.”

[Dr.] David Neumark, director of the Center for Economics and Public Policy at the University of California, Irvine, said no ‘sensible economist’ would argue for a doubling of the minimum wage…  Neumark said a consensus view is emerging [among economists] that a 10 percent increase in the minimum wage reduces employment among lowest-skilled groups by 1 percent to 2 percent.  Look no farther for evidence of the negative effects of a high minimum wage than Washington and the other states raising the minimum wage: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, and Vermont.  All eight states have minimum wages above the federal minimum wage of $7.25.  Seven of these eight states already have unemployment rates above the national median.”

Why a One-Size-Fits-All Federal Minimum Wage Makes Zero Sense
It’s a simple fact that income levels in most low-cost states cannot support a $15 minimum wage.

The higher the price of labor, the lower the demand. This is so basic that it defies logic to claim otherwise.
