While Kirk makes a good point, it’s not the best (i.e. the biblical) point that needs to be made. While “winning” elections is usually beneficial IF Republicans are conservatives (most Republican leaders are not), Jesus never once called His followers to mere pragmatic, strategic behaviors (including in voting). Rather, Jesus always and only called His followers to FAITHFUL, GODLY behaviors — which translates in the political arena into faithful and godly votes (be they for candidates, issues, or party leaders). The political goal for followers of Christ (which Kirk claims to be) is never to win elections but rather to REPRESENT CHRIST – while voting in those elections (including for party leaders). The difference is the difference between following the corrupt world’s example and following Christ’s example. Tragically, most self-identifying Christians today do not understand that difference.
